Winter 3d-People

Did you find the secret place in our winterscene? No, well, you can still have this set of 3d-people we scanned recently!

Last autumn we tested this little gadget called structure sensor and scanned some people again. While the quality is still a far cry from “professional” models our new set is already way better than anything we had before. And the ease of use of the infrared tool is impressive and eliminates a lot of the 3d-scanning problems we had with humans before.

We tried to quadify one of the characters and triangulate the other. Decide yourself, which one has the better topology (We don’t mind the tris …)

The two characters included might certainly not work for closeups, but at mid-distance I think you can get quite convincing results – no? The female character comes triangulated while the bloke is quadrified in ZBrush. That was part of our research, which works better. Honestly – when you don’t need to animate the mesh, I think the triangulation is absolutely fine !

Hope, you like what you see and maybe feel encouraged to do a few scans by yourself!

Take care, xoio

Since faces still are quite problematic – a view from behind always works :).

This should be the renderoutput from the included Max-File. Enjoy !

The structure sensor which we used to scan from our IPad in use. Some peculiar case where we needed a quick hand model. As you see, we had to fool the software in many ways to do what we wanted it to do.
